Must-See Movie: Not Another Happy Ending

Today, January 6th, is the day dreams come true because Not Another Happy Ending is available on DVD in the US! I freaked out about this movie last year when I just happened to rent it on iTunes and then fell in love with it. So, then I bought it through iTunes, but that wasn't good enough because I could only watch it on my computer. I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for it to be available elsewhere, and it finally is! Even though owning it digitally is great, there's still something special about having a physical copy for my movie collection. It's like how I still prefer paperbacks to eBooks. You can rent Not Another Happy Ending through Amazon now, too. Yay!!! I have Tivo, so I've been periodically checking to see when/if I could rent/buy it through one of the platforms included with Tivo. I'm so excited that I finally can! I bought the soundtrack, too. Very enjoyable!

Screenwriter David Solomons adapted his screenplay into a novel, which I read and loved, too. Have there been any other movies that became books? I thought that was so unique and really fun to find out even more details about the characters and their lives that didn't make it into the film. Anyway, this movie is one of the best romantic comedies I've ever seen, and I've seen tons of romcoms. I could watch it over and over again (and I have!). It's just so perfect. You have to see it if you haven't, and if you have, you have to watch it again...and again. It's set in Scotland, so the fashion and the scenery are stunning. Karen Gillan and Stanley Weber are fantastic together. So much on-screen chemistry! They're adorable. (Side note: I was so sad when Karen's new show Selfie was canceled, but I think she will be in many more shows and movies because she's such a wonderful actress. Love her! She's like the Scottish version of Zooey Deschanel, especially in Not Another Happy Ending.) And Stanley portrays his character with just the right amount of grumpiness, humor, and charm. He's so great! In any romcom, it's really important for the two leads to have that special spark on film that makes everyone root for them, and Karen and Stanley definitely do!

Here's a bit about the movie: Jane Lockhart (Karen Gillan) sends her debut novel to publisher Tom Duval (Stanley Weber) for consideration. He agrees to publish it, and signs her for a second novel, too. But trouble starts when Jane gets writer's block and struggles to complete her second novel. Her debut was such a success that now Tom believes she's too happy to write and sets out to make her miserable so she'll finish her second book and his company won't go bankrupt. He thinks his plan is brilliant until he starts to fall in love with her.

Something Blue Movie Officially Happening

Big news for Emily Giffin fans! The New York Times bestselling author confirmed the film adaptation of her novel, Something Blue. This morning, Giffin tweeted, "It's FINALLY happening!! On my way to LA to officially start working on the script for SOMETHING BLUE!!!! SO PUMPED!"

Something Blue is the follow-up to Something Borrowed, which was adapted for film and released in theaters on May 6, 2011. The sequel focuses on Darcy and Ethan in London. It has not been confirmed yet if Kate Hudson and John Krasinski will reprise their roles as these characters, but the chances are good. In a video interview posted by the Associated Press on April 18, 2011, Hudson and Krasinski each expressed interest in participating in the sequel.

Giffin's seventh novel, The One & Only, will be released on May 20, 2014.
